VTR-22 - Determining TN Brand to Be Issued on an Out of State Title

Not all states use the same title brands to designate vehicles that Tennessee would brand a salvage, rebuilt, or non-repairable vehicle. If an out-of-state title uses an alternative brand, the Vehicle Services division conducts research to determine the appropriate brand for Tennessee to issue for the vehicle. This research may involve contacting the previous state for a letter of explanation, or possibly a corrected title from the previous state, in order to properly brand or title the vehicle in Tennessee.
