Insurance companies will only receive an error file in response to their monthly transmission if an error was detected. An error file will contain the VIN, policy number, and applicable error code.
The error file will be designated by VIN rather than policy number, as the Department might not have the policy number on file. The error file will generally contain whatever information the insurance company has provided in its file; the Department cannot alter or enhance the file.
The Department sends an email to an SFTP website where the insurance company can retrieve its error files.
