VT-15 - Surety Bonds are Limited to Tennessee Residents

An out of state resident, who buys a car in Tennessee, cannot obtain a surety bond in Tennessee. By law, individuals must be Tennessee residents with valid Tennessee addresses in order to apply for a surety bond in Tennessee.  Surety bonds are written for vehicles with lost titles for registrants who plan on titling a vehicle in Tennessee.  If an individual is a resident of another state and has a secondary residence in Tennessee with a valid Tennessee address, the secondary address in Tennessee can be used to apply for a surety bond.
