VTR-49 - TN Title Issued After the Surrender of an Out of State Title

When a registrant surrenders an out of state title in support of an application for title and registration in Tennessee, the county clerk’s office will issue a Tennessee certificate of title and license plate to the registrant. If all required documentation is provided and the vehicle does not have any liens, a certificate of title and license plate can be provided to the registrant on the same day their application is submitted. If the vehicle is subject to a lien, the title will be mailed to the lienholder in accordance with Tennessee law, but the registrant may receive their license plate.
