VTR-46 - When Title/Registration Must Occur After Purchase of Used Vehicle

A Tennessee resident that purchases a used vehicle from another Tennessee resident must title and register the vehicle in their name prior to operating the vehicle upon a public road or highway.  The purchaser of a used vehicle should title and register the vehicle in their name as soon as possible, to ensure that their interest in the vehicle is protected.
