When registering a vintage plate, the same guidelines are followed for completing an antique plate registration. The registrant should complete the Certification for Antique Vehicle Registration. If the registrant has an appropriate vintage plate they would like to register with the antique vehicle, they can use the vintage plate instead of the standard antique plate. The vintage plate must be an official Tennessee license plate, issued the same year as the manufacture of the vehicle being registered. When an antique vehicle is stationary, the vehicle may display a license plate from the era in which the vehicle was manufactured, but when a vehicle is being operated on the road, the vehicle must display a current license plate registered to the vehicle.
