PRR-9 - Disclosing Reason for Requesting Public Records

Citizens of Tennessee are entitled to access or receive public records under reasonable conditions. For non-tax public records, the requester generally does not have to explain why he or she wants the records, but specific information might be necessary to process the request. For tax and motor vehicle records, the Department of Revenue may require more information to determine whether your request comes under an exception to the confidentiality provisions of law.
