Currently, the law does not state that a stepparent may obtain a Gold Star Family plate if their stepchild was a member of the military. “Stepparent” or “stepchild” is not an eligible person. The law states:
“to each eligible person in the state whose spouse, parent, sibling, or child served and died in the line of duty in the Armed Forces of the United States or its allies, or died as a result of injuries sustained in such service.”
