TNTAP Registration-3 – Error Message – “The ID, ID Type, or Name you have entered does not match our records”

The information you enter when you register for your TNTAP account must match what the Department of Revenue has on file with your tax account. Please check the following:

  • If you entered your Social Security Number (SSN) as your ID type, try using your business’s Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) instead. Likewise, if you entered your FEIN or ITIN and receive an error message, please try your SSN. The ID type must match information you have already provided to the Department of Revenue for your tax account previously.
  • If your business is a sole proprietorship owned with your spouse, select sole proprietor, and input the primary spouse’s social security number.
  • Note that state agency IDs are only applicable to government entities like cities and counties. Do not choose this ID type to register unless you are a government entity.

If you have tried these troubleshooting tips and you are still experiencing issues, please call the Taxpayer Services Division at (615) 253-0600 or submit a request to us through this application.
