SUT-113 - Hemp - Legal Implications of Growing Hemp in Tennessee

Effective January 1, 2026, Public Chapter 526 (2025) amends the regulation and taxation of hemp-derived cannabinoid products.

The Tennessee Department of Revenue does not administer any of the laws or regulations on hemp growers. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is the state agency that regulates hemp. Information regarding the legality of growing hemp in Tennessee is available on their website at https://www.tn.gov/agriculture/farms/hemp-industry.html.

Hemp growers that also make sales of hemp or hemp-derived cannabinoid products should consult Important Notice 25-11 for more information on the legal implications of these sales.
