A credit memo, also referred to as a Notice of Overpayment, is a document the Department issues to a taxpayer when the tax liability is less than the payments received. This document includes the account information, filing period involved in the credit, and a summary of action. It is delivered via email or stamped mail depending on the taxpayer's TNTAP preferences.
You may submit a claim for a refund for the amount on the credit memo. To submit a claim for refund, please sign into your TNTAP account and select 'Claim a Refund.'
Please note the credit balance shown on a Notice of Overpayment letter only reflects the amount that was not claimed as a carry forward credit to the next year. This amount may not fully reflect the available carryforward amounts found in TNTAP.
