I am asked to include the retailer’s location account number when filing the wholesaler/distributor report. How do I know if I have the correct number on file?

The retailer’s sales tax account number or location ID number is included on its resale certificate.  Resale certificates issued prior to March 2017 will have a nine digit sales tax account number.  This number is now the location ID number.  Resale certificates issued March 2017 or after will have a 10-digit location ID number included on the certificate.  

You can verify the validity of sales and use resale and exemption certificates by navigating to the Tennessee Taxpayer Access Point (TNTAP) and clicking on Verify a Sales & Use Tax Certificate.
