The Tennessee Open Records Act allows Tennessee citizens to view government public records that are connected to official business transactions, unless otherwise provided by state law. (See Tenn. Code Ann. § 10-7-501 et seq.)
The Tennessee Department of Revenue is committed to fulfilling public records requests. The Department strives to balance a taxpayer’s legal right to have certain information kept confidential with a citizen’s right to access records. In fulfilling public records requests, the Department is bound by laws that prevent the disclosure of certain confidential information. (See Tenn. Code Ann. § 67-1-1702).
