I received a notice of proposed assessment for business tax. What do I need to do?

If your business’s tax year ends on December 31st, business tax was due on April 18th, 2017 for the 2016 year. The Department recently mailed notices of proposed assessment to businesses that have not yet filed business tax for this year.

If your business is located in a city, you will need to file both a city (BUS CITY) and a state (BUS COUNTY) business tax return and payment. Your notice will indicate which return is outstanding.

To resolve this, please file and pay your business tax electronically at https://apps.tn.gov/biztax. If you have filed business tax electronically before, please use the same username and password you used in prior years.  Otherwise, create your username and password and view the demo pages for assistance.  More information about filing this tax electronically is available here.

If you believe you have already filed  your business tax return(s) for the 2016 tax year, please contact the Department to ensure your return has posted to your account. You can submit a ticket by clicking “Not finding answers? Submit a request” below.
