What is a letter ID?

A Letter ID is a unique number that is printed on all correspondence from the Department of Revenue that is generated from the new tax system. The letter ID is in the following format: L1234567890.

A letter ID will be printed on all correspondence printed since March 5, 2017 for the following taxes:

  • sales and use tax
  • professional privilege tax
  • tobacco tax
  • liquor-by-the-drink tax
  • television and telecommunications sales tax

A letter ID will be printed on all correspondence printed since May 29, 2018 for the following taxes:

  • business tax
  • franchise & excise tax
  • Hall income tax
  • overweight assessments

You can use the letter ID to help set up your new TNTAP account. You will also need the information here  to register for your TNTAP account.
