I’m trying to register for TNTAP and I get the error “The ID, ID Type, or Name you have entered does not match our records.” What should I do?

The information you enter when you register for your TNTAP account must match what the Department of Revenue has on file with your tax account. Please check the following:

  •  Make sure that the business name you have entered is your legal business name. This may or may not be the same as your “doing business as” name.
  • If you entered your Social Security Number (SSN) as your ID type, try using your business’ Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) instead. Likewise, if you entered your FEIN or ITIN and receive an error message, please try your SSN. The ID type must match information you have already provided to the Department of Revenue for your tax account previously.
  • If your business is a sole proprietorship owned with your spouse, a Marital Joint ID has been issued to your business. Please call the Department at 615-253-0600 or submit a ticket to us through this application to get this ID.
  • Note that state agency IDs are only applicable to government entities like cities and counties. Do not choose this ID type to register unless you are a government entity.

If you have tried the potential remedies listed above and you are still experiencing issues, please call us at 615-253-0600 or submit a request to us through this application.
